Title or Location: Waiting in the Park
Acrylic on canvas 40cm x 55cmI used a photo of a London park as my initial reference, but I wanted to make it invite the viewer to look into the distance, to wonder what might be there. I felt that setting it in the rain and wind and the fading light would make the viewer ask questions. The figure in the hat is a recurring figure I add to my paintings. Why is he sitting there in the rain? Who is he meeting and why? I like mystery and meloncholy in my work as opposed to sunny landscapes and h

Excepting snow, nothing transforms a landscape like a flood. Last Spring saw heavy rain causing the river to overflow into meadows. Once verdant, sheep cropped fields became mirrors of the watery sun sky. The banality of the warning signs contrasting with the drama of overall scene. Watercolour seems the ideal medium for the subject.

Title or Location: Finding Peace
The location is Budleigh Salterton, Devon, UK.Combination of three different images: the sea, the boat, and the pebbles. The pebbles on the beach typically look uniformly grey. However, for this painting and a series of similar ones, I've exaggerated the colour saturation of the pebbles and super-imposed as the foreground for contrast against the background and middle-ground. "Finding Peace" for those struggling with mental illness impacting their lives.

I made this for a lovely friends daughter who had to move from her flat in Edinburgh as the landlord was selling up . It didn?t really give her long to get something else especially in Edinburgh so she moved out the city to a house she could afford . She has a disabled son who she shares the responsibility of looking after with her ex partner. So she had to really start again , so I said I would make her a welcome sign with birds on it as she?s also a DJ in Edinburgh who goes by the name of Bird
